Tina Turner was an American singer and songwriter who has gone from humble beginnings to become one of the iconic female performers of all time. She began her career as part of the R&B duo Ike and Tina Turner and later made it big as a solo artist. Turner has enjoyed a long and successful career that spans five decades and is credited with inspiring many other female musical artists. She is known for her energetic live performances, her bold costume choices, and her strong female empowerment songs.
Born Anna Mae Bullock in november, 24, 1939 in Nutbush, Tennessee, Turner was the daughter of a Baptist church minister. At an early age Tina was asked to sing with the church choir and often performed solo during services. During her teenage years, she sang with local groups and went on to become part of the Ike and Tina Turner Revue. It was during this period that she gained attention with her dynamic stage presence and powerful vocal range.
