Sinead O'Connor: Nothing Compares 2U * 1966 ♱︎ 2023

“She had only so much ‘self’ to give,” wrote Morrisey
“She was dropped by her label after selling 7 million albums for them.
She became crazed, yes, but uninteresting, never.
She had done nothing wrong.
She had proud vulnerability…
and there is a certain music industry
hatred for singers who don’t ‘fit in’ (this I know only too well),
and they are never praised until death – when, finally, they can’t answer back.
The cruel playpen of fame gushes with praise for Sinead today…
with the usual moronic labels of ‘icon’ and ‘legend.’
You praise her now ONLY because it is too late.
You hadn’t the guts to support her when she was alive and she was looking for you.”

She was born Sinéad Marie Bernadette O'Connor on December 8, 1966, in Dublin, Ireland.
She is the third of five children. Her siblings are novelist Joseph O'Connor, Eimear O'Connor, Eoin O'Connor, and John O'Connor.

She began her music career in the early 1980s, and her debut album, The Lion and the Cobra, was released in 1987. Her second album, I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got, was released in 1990 and became her biggest success, selling over seven million copies worldwide. Its lead single, "Nothing Compares 2 U", was a number-one hit in many countries. Prince composed the song and "Nothing Compares 2 U" was originally released in 1985 by the group The Family, of which Prince was a part. But it was on Sinéad's voice that the song became a hit.

O'Connor is known for her powerful voice, her expressive eyes, and her shaved head. She is also known for her outspoken political views and her willingness to challenge authority.

In 1992, she famously tore up a picture of Pope John Paul II on Saturday Night Live to protest child abuse in the Catholic Church. This act caused a great deal of controversy, but it also made O'Connor a more well-known figure.

O'Connor has released ten studio albums, as well as several live albums and compilations. She has also starred in a few films, including The Butcher Boy (1997) and Nora (2000).

O'Connor has been married four times and has four children. She has struggled with mental health issues and addiction, and she has made several suicide attempts.

In 2018, O'Connor converted to Islam and changed her name to Shuhada' Sadaqat.

O'Connor was a complex and controversial figure, but she was also a talented musician and a powerful voice for social justice. She will be remembered for her music, her activism, and her courage.

Sinéad O'Connor's Love Life

Sinéad O'Connor was a complex and passionate woman, and her love life reflected that. She was married four times and had four children, and she was also in relationships with several other men.

O'Connor's first marriage was to John Reynolds, a record producer. They were married from 1987 to 1991 and had one son together, Jake. After her divorce from Reynolds, O'Connor had relationships with several men, including Anthony Kiedis of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Peter Gabriel, and John Waters, a columnist for the Irish Times.

In 2001, O'Connor married Nick Sommerlad, a journalist. Their marriage lasted for only a year, and they divorced in 2002. O'Connor then had a relationship with Donal Lunny, an Irish musician. They had one son together, Shane, who died by suicide in 2022.

In 2010, O'Connor married Steve Cooney, a musician. Their marriage lasted for only a year, and they divorced in 2011. In 2011, O'Connor married Barry Herridge, a therapist. Their marriage lasted for only two years, and they divorced in 2013.

O'Connor's love life was often turbulent, but she was always passionate about her relationships. She was a fiercely independent woman who refused to conform to the expectations of others. She was also a deeply spiritual person, and she believed that love was the most important thing in life.

Sinéad O'Connor's Legacy

Sinéad O'Connor was a groundbreaking musician and a powerful voice for social justice. She will be remembered for her music, her activism, and her courage.

Her legacy is one of controversy and triumph. She was a polarizing figure, but she was also a talented artist who made a significant impact on the world. She will be remembered for her powerful voice, her outspoken views, and her commitment to social justice.

Sinéad O'Connor's activism:

Child abuse: O'Connor was a vocal critic of the Catholic Church's handling of child abuse cases. In 1992, she famously tore up a picture of Pope John Paul II on Saturday Night Live to protest the church's cover-up of child abuse. She also wrote and performed the song "The Emperor's New Clothes" about the issue.

Women's rights: O'Connor was a strong supporter of women's rights. She spoke out against domestic violence and abortion restrictions. She also wrote and performed the song "Famine" about the Irish Potato Famine, which disproportionately affected women.

Mental health: O'Connor was open about her own struggles with mental health, and she was a strong advocate for mental health awareness. She spoke out about her own experiences with depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder. She also founded the organization Spiritus, which provides support to people with mental health challenges.

Human rights: O'Connor was a vocal supporter of human rights causes around the world. She spoke out against human rights abuses in Ireland, the United States, and other countries. She also supported the rights of refugees and asylum seekers.

O'Connor's activism was often controversial, but she was never afraid to speak her mind. She was a powerful voice for social justice, and she made a significant impact on the world.

Here are some additional examples of O'Connor's activism:

In 1990, she refused to attend the Grammy Awards in protest of the music industry's commercialism.

In 2003, she spoke out against the Persian Gulf conflicts.
In 2010, she founded the organization 'Autism Together', which provides support to people with autism and their families.

O'Connor's activism was not always easy. She was often criticized and attacked for her views. However, she never backed down. She was a true believer in social justice, and she was willing to fight for what she believed in. She will be remembered as a powerful voice for change.

In an interview with People magazine in 2021 to promote her memoir Rememberings, she recounted telling to her kids to call her accountant before calling 911 if she was found dead.

Did you know?

Komar and Melamid and composer Dave Soldier created "The Most Unwanted Song" in 1997. The song was designed to incorporate lyrical and musical elements that were annoying to most people, as determined by a public opinion survey. These elements included bagpipes, cowboy music, an opera singer rapping, and a children's choir that urged listeners to go shopping at Wal-Mart.

For The People's Choice: Music CD, "The Most Unwanted Song" was paired with "The Most Wanted Song," which incorporated musical elements that were "wanted" by listeners, again as determined by a public opinion survey. Instruments such as guitar, bass, piano and drums, and lyrics about love were "most wanted" by the survey respondents, and are included in the song, which has been described as "Celine Dion-esque". The vocals for "The Most Wanted Song" are provided by Ada Dyer and Ronnie Gent; Living Colour guitarist Vernon Reid is featured on guitar. [Wikipedia]

It is a 22 min long music.

Music by love

it is happiness
or whatever it can be named but is so good
happiness, relief, love, redemption, freedom,
you are right, can't describe it
it is a lot of things in just one person heart and soul
you are my aura
belonging
I love being your aura
yes it' s like you are around and in me like an aura
it is like it is there since the very beginning
a feeling that i miss and never found but it was there all the time , i just didnt
saw before
love you so much
and al things that happened was the preparaton for this moment
see? i already making poems
it's a beautiful poem!!
we are a poem
a book
of beautiful light
warm beautiful light
well a whole vellum paper, parchment
yes we are writting , breathing, hearing, understanding
and brighting
as the light you said
we are
hey it is like we are playing a music
and then we play the same key
we found each others music key
what it is to be it will be since the beginning even when we do not notice

I studied in a nun school for all my whole and entire life. I hardly say a bad name and never ever write them. Maybe thats why I like this tune too. If I was a musician I probably would be a traditional pianist. It would be fun relax and say how I really feel sometimes. Anyway, any displays of useless actions makes me feel bored. But music, is always good. Well, mostly.

What else can be said about life that haven't been said yet? Sun is not for everyone, the strongest and smartest gets everything, sometimes one pays most for the things one gets for nothing, and some are luckier than others. You can say that luck doesn't exist: it is a result of opportunity and preparation, right? But, what about those who have preparation, opportunities and are devoured by the mean ones? And those who have preparation and no opportunities at all? Life is not fair in human world. In the jungle, animals don't think about it ( I guess) and the laws are the same. It is weird to know that one day I will not be here anymore. I will be forgotten as anyone will anyway someday too if their names were not written in Human History.

Music is one thing that can take us away from this even from few minutes, or maybe put us in a hole worst than what we are living sometimes. Love free us from all the pain, but if it doesn't work as a relationship f.e. it also take us in a dark travel inside the dark side of our soul.

They say that ignorance is like a sky without stars, but sometimes ignorance is an armor against the unfair side of life. Knowledge make us ask, search even more for an answer. And the answer, no one has anyway.

Oh yes, I forgot to say: life is beautiful.

I read somewhere: "Some people believe in God, I believe in Music. Some people pray, I turn up the radio. If Music weren't here, I wouldn't be here. Music is everything to me. Simple as that."

"Without music, life would be a mistake."

O Segundo Sol

The First Day

Feeling alone in a vast universe.
Looking around she can see how she loves life.
It was never a corresponded love
but what could she do?
She would ever love the colours,
the sounds,
the wind....
that flows through her hairs
and bring her memories
of something that she would never had
but how she miss it!

Inside her soul plays a beautiful song
that fulfill her heart with love and passion
but cant fulfill her loneliness.

As a soul in her farewell
she was sad because her mom would never love her,
happy to have been reconnected with her daughter,
glad that her son would be a pratical man
and in bliss cause she have found the man of her life,
although she knows
that she'd never meet him.

It was getting cold and the firsts drops of rain started touching her face. Slowly she looked to the sky.. shadows of gray were passing so fast...the wind came to meet her thoughts - she winked in a slow motion.

Her ex-husband was so different that day. He didnt say goodbye but she felt like something was making her fade. She didnt know yet what she would plan later. She has been always a stone in someone's shoes.. then now she would be a relief. It was not self compassion.. it was just the only way to take.

She felt a relief as well. Like.. she was leaving her stones back.. getting lighter to fly.

The Trouble with Love is....

*
Love can be a many splendored thing

Can't deny the joy it brings

A dozen roses,

diamond rings

Dreams for sale

and fairy tales

*

It'll make you hear a symphony

And you just want the world to see

But like a drug that makes you blind,

It'll fool ya every time

*

The trouble with love is

It can tear you up inside

Make your heart believe a lie

It's stronger than your pride

The trouble with love is

It doesn't care how fast you fall

And you can't refuse the call

See, you got no say at all

*

Now I was once a fool, it's true

I played the game by all the rules

But now my world's a deeper blue

I'm sadder, but I'm wiser too

I swore I'd never love again

I swore my heart would never mend

Said love wasn't worth the pain

But then I hear it call my name

*

The trouble with love is

It can tear you up inside

Make your heart believe a lie

It's stronger than your pride

The trouble with love is

It doesn't care how fast you fall

And you can't refuse the call

See, you got no say at all

*

Every time I turn around

I think I've got it all figured out

My heart keeps callin' and I keep on fallin'

Over and over again

This sad story always ends the same

Me standin' in the pourin' rain

It seems no matter what I do

It tears my heart in two

*

(The trouble with love is) The trouble with love,

(It can tear you up inside) It can tear you up inside

(Make your heart believe a lie) Make your heart believe a lie

It's stronger than your pride(The trouble with love is)

It's in your heartIt's in your soul (doesn't care how fast you fall)

You won't get no control(and you can't refuse the call)

See, you got no say at all(The trouble with love is)

Oh, yeah(It can tear you up inside)

(Make your heart believe a lie).

Chão de Giz

Eu desço dessa solidão, espalho coisas sobre um chão de giz

Há meros devaneios tolos a me torturar

Meus vinte anos de "boy", "that's over, baby" , Freud explica

my translation:

I get down from that loneliness and spread things on a floor of chalk
There are mere fool daydreams to torture me
Photos cut in leaves newspapers often
I will keep you in a cloth to keep confetti
I will keep you in a cloth to keep confetti
.
I shot cannon bullets, it is useless because there is a grand-vizir
There are so many old violets without a hummingbird
I would like using - who knows -, a shirt of force or venus
But, they will not tease us only a cigarette
Neither I will kiss you spending so my lipstick.
.
Now I catch a truck and I'm knocked-down again
I was bound in your heel forever
My twenty years of "boy", "that's over, baby," ... does Freud explain
I will not dirty myself for smoking just one cigarette
Neither will I kiss you spending so my lipstick
So, about the cloth of confetti my carnival has passed
And that explains why sex is a popular subject
I'm leaving...
I'm leaving...
I'm...
